28. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman
Embed from Getty ImagesIn February, 2001, after 12 years of marriage Tom Cruise filed for divorce from his then wife actress Nicole Kidman. The couple met while making the film “Days of Thunder” They got married in 1990 and went on to adopt two children together Isabella and Connor. Cruise was and remains a staunch Scientologist being introduced to the Church through his first wife Mimi Rogers. Kidman converted to the religion and their two children were also raised as Scientologists. When people asked why they were getting divorced Cruise would only say; Ask Nicole she knows.’ Nicole said she was blindsided by the divorce which soon turned messy with Cruise trying to avoid the split of assets that California law mandates after a couple have been married for ten years by claiming that that was not the case and they had only been married for nine years and 11 months. Nicole hit back utilizing proof with the placenta she had saved from her at the time recent miscarriage to prove that Tom was the father. The acrimonious parting was finalized on August 8, 2001 with Cruise being granted the right to raise their children. Kidman is now happily married to Country singer Keith Urban with whom she shares two biological children.
