Hakan Aysal, 40 denies pushing his seven month pregnant wife Semra Aysal, 32 of a cliff in Turkey to gain access to the life insurance he had recently taken out on her.
Aysal claims his wife died after accidentally falling off the cliff while they were on holiday in Butterfly Valley in Mugla, Turkey in June, 2018
Just before Semal fell to her death the couple had posed for selfies. She fell 1,000 feet and she as well as her unborn child were reportedly killed on impact.
Directly after her demise, Aysal tried to claim the life insurance policy worth 400,000 Turkish lira, approximately $57,000. Due to police investigations into the incident his request was denied.
A court has ruled that Aysal be remanded in custody on charges of premeditated murder.
Naim Yolcu, Semra’s brother has said that his brother-in-law displayed no emotion following the death of his sister.
“When we went to the Forensic Medicine Institute to get the body, Hakan was sitting in the car,” Yoluc stated during a video interview in court.
“My family and I were destroyed, but Hakan did not even appear sad.”
Prosecutors claim that the reason they sat on top of the cliff for three hours prior to the tragedy was so that Aysal could make sure that no was around.
They allege that as soon as Aysal was sure no one could witness what was to come he deliberately killed his wife and unborn child by shoving her off the cliff in a premeditated plan to gain access to the insurance monies.
